Best time to visit Fort Myers

The most suitable time to visit Fort Myers is in March and May. Although the sun is up and prices are below, visitors desiring a quiet vacation should be on the prospect for spring breakers. The summer months witness the most crowds, particularly families, so plan to book at most limited three months in advance if you'll be visiting then. Fort Myers Beach - Fort Myers Beach is a seven-mile-long golden band of sand with lightweight, tepid water, backed by homes and a small collection of motels and restaurants. This is an ideal area for swimming, walking, and gently spotting dolphins, which patronize the area and can sometimes be seen as nearby as just a few feet offshore. The beach goes from Bowditch Point Park in the north down to Lovers Key State Park in the south, but most maximum of the action is focused around the pier and the area associated with Times Square. The region south of the pier is the most exciting stretch of sand, where you will be able to find crowds of sun-seekers on hot days. You can borrow beach chairs, and someplace offers food service, creating a trendy beach scene. For an extra sedate scene, check out the neighborhood north of the pier. Here, you'll find the beach stiffened by a city park with picnic tables and washroom facilities.

Times Square - Located right behind the pier is provocative Times Square. This area is home to an abundance of restaurants with patio seating, ice-cream shops, and all method of beach and souvenir stores and surf shops. In the evenings, street entertainers entertain crowds. A wide section right off the beach is pedestrian-only, but greatly back are streets where traffic is authorized and some parking is available.

b>Edison Ford Winter Estates - Positioned just north of downtown Fort Myers in a charming community is the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. These places are now a National Historic Landmark and function as a museum open to the people for tours. Spread across 21 acres, this waterfront site highlights the historical homes of these two interesting men who were friends. On a little journey, you can notice the expansive grounds, laboratories, and a state-of-the-art museum with seven galleries, concluded with vintage cars and exhibits on electricity. Also of note are the botanical gardens including an amazing Banyan Tree, reportedly the most abundant in North America, dating from 1925, which, includes an acre of territory and is 65 feet tall.

Fort Myers River District / Downtown - Fort Myers has done an outstanding job of conserving its historic downtown. This region, indicated by the red interlocking roadway, is full of restaurants, theaters, and delightful boutiques. Art Deco buildings dating from the 1920s act as a backdrop for the precinct, which becomes alive in the late afternoon and fresh evening. Porches fill with diners enjoying some of the excellent fare on offer, and pedestrians saunter up and down the wide sidewalks.

The Pier at Fort Myers Beach - Dating basically from 1921 but completely restored, the Fort Myers Pier juts out 560 feet within the Gulf of Mexico and is one of Southwest Florida's premier twilight scenes. The pier is also recognized locally as Pelican Pier since pelicans generally line the pier and keep a friendly eye on people fishing.
The pier is free to exercise on and has a wide partially covered viewing area at the point, along with a tiny kiosk selling drinks, fishing supplies, and memorials halfway along the deck. From the pier, you can regularly see dolphins swimming similarity to the beach, not far offshore. Throughout the day, you'll see the lively beach picture to the south, people parasailing in the sky, and all kinds of boats running back and forth just offshore.

How to reach Fort Myers

Plane - Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is the nearest airport to Fort Myers (nearly 17 miles away) and has excellent links to the rest of the country. Shuttle buses are convenient to major hotels, but LeeTran bus number 50 is the most affordable route into the city for other visitors (only fares cost $1.50). Expect a taxi at the airport to charge about $30.

Car - There is not a station in Fort Myers any higher, but Amtrak does contribute a Thruway service from Tampa, the terminal stop on the Silver Star service from New York City. The bus takes 3 hrs 30 min to arrive at Fort Myers, so it is a bit slow way to arrive in the city.

Train - For some people, driving to Fort Myers is the most acceptable choice. All you need to do is to catch up with I-75 and you will be addressed straight to Fort Myers. Those arriving from Orlando should take I-4 and then switch to I-75 at Tampa.

Bus - Fort Myers is on the national Greyhound bus system, so long-distance buses are a cut-price opportunity. The Greyhound stop is positioned at 2250 Widman Way, nearly at the center of the city, which is convenient for most of the best hotels.
