AirTkt Travel Tips of Choosing your Cruise

At Airtkt.com provides most accurate and complete Tips and Tricks for your Health and Safety during your Trip.

  • Most popular are the 3-day weekend, 4-day midweek, one week  and 10 day cruises.  You can also find some that are as much as 2or 3 months in length.  Occasionally you can find 1 or 2-day cruises and even a few lasting just a few hours.  Those are set up to gamble in international waters.  There is something available to appeal to everyone's time and vacation dollars.
  • Cruises go anywhere in the world where there is water !  The most popular spots are the Caribbean, Baja California (AKA the Mexican Riviera) and Alaska.  Europe, Hawaii and the Mediterranean are also gaining fans.
  • Not really.  There are a great variety of cruises in every part of the world.  Due to its popularity, the Caribbean is inundated with most of the major cruise lines and a variety of different types of ships. Each line as well as each ship has its own flavor.  There are budget, mid-priced and super luxury categories for you to choose from. Caribbean.  Most itineraries are of different lengths and vary in the ports visited.   Each Caribbean cruise will provide a totally different vacation experience.
  • All cruise lines offer a single rate if you are cruising alone.  Be aware that this rate may be 150 -  200% of that of the second person in a double occupancy cabin.  It could be the same as paying for two cruises, just because you are alone.  Look for a cruise line that offers a lower single rate or will waive the single supplement.

  • Consider a "share" program that some lines offer.  In this case, the cruise line finds a roommate for you of the same gender.  That way you can take advantage of the lower, double occupancy rate.  If they offer, but then can’t find you a partner, you probably will still get the cabin at the lower rate.  You might find a new, lifelong friend, but you also are taking the risk of being stuck in a cabin with someone you don't like or feel uncomfortable with.

  • It sure can !  Remember, the ship will be your hotel, restaurant and much of your entertainment for the entire trip.  A cruise is really a package and is different from a traditional, on land vacation.  Take the time to research and make sure that you are choosing the right cruise for you.  An ideal cruise for one person might be a nightmare for someone else.  Be sure that the cruise fits !  Look for the best value not just the cheapest rate.  Different ships and even the lines themselves market to certain groups.  Make sure that you are the right customer for that product.

  • Certain lines cater to a younger age group, singles or families.

  • Others are more sedate, quiet, elegant and offer superior "haute cuisine" and sophisticated entertainment.

  • Some have loud, exciting activities that attract an active, usually younger clientele.

  • Many plan family activities as a major selling point, so be aware that the ship will be filled with kids.

  • All ships offer shore excursions.  Some may be ideal for you, while others have no appeal or seem over-priced.

  • Put in some time and do your homework . The research will be well worth it.

  • Browse the cruise line’s web pages and brochures.  Peruse the pictures and check to see what activities are planned.  Do they offer something that will satisfy your likes and needs and will the features benefit you ?

  • Try to make a decision early.  Decide whether you want a quiet relaxed cruise, a romantic adventure or "party time".  Only when you have an idea of what you want out from a cruise, can you judge the possibilities and pick the one that best suits you.

  • Ask friends and acquaintances who may have more experience than you, but always keep in mind that your likes and dislikes are unique.  Find out what they were looking for on a cruise and whether they got it.  Hopefully they loved the cruise because they got what they wanted.  Be certain that your expectations are similar if you are booking the same cruise.

  • Use the knowledge and expertise of your Travel Agent.  Don't be afraid to ask questions and take advantage an important asset.

  • Does the amount that you budgeted cover the overall cost of the cruise ?

  • Are there any price breaks, discounts or deals ?

  • What is the cruise line’s reputation regarding its quality of food and variety of its menu ?

  • How is the their reputation for customer service ?

  • Do they have a good safety, health and cleanliness record ?

  • What is the overall atmosphere that the line conveys ?  Is it family fun, party time, quite elegant sophistication or romantic getaway ?

  • What is the length of the cruise ?

  • What are the main facilities offered ?

  • Are there sufficient "On Ship" activities planned ?

  • Is there a specific theme attached to the cruise that you are considering ?

  • Most importantly, what ports you will be visiting ?.

  • Are the shore excursions that they offer of a good variety and price ?
